A new voice and vision in Position #6 for a healthy, resilient, and vibrant Port Orchard.
Why run for City Council?
I’m the mother of two energetic boys.
I’m a lawyer and a small business owner who runs a strategic communications consultancy.
I an alum of three excellent universities: Pepperdine University, the University of Southern California Law School, and the University of Arkansas Law school where I achieved an advanced law degree in agricultural and food policy.
I’ve had some fascinating jobs: enduring “business bootcamp” at a prestigious talent agency, negotiating contracts for TV/film companies, leading teams as a producer/director, digging through corporate documents of pharmaceutical legal cases, engaging audiences and facilitating discussions on social topics, connecting farmers and farming organizations with resources, and selling products at farmers markets.
But I’ve also faced many challenges along this exciting journey.
There was a time that I struggled with mental and physical health. Bouts of underemployment and unemployment destroyed my self-worth. Although I have never been without shelter, it is only because I have a network of family and friends. I have known the sorrow of having a brother lose his life to fentanyl.
People ask me: Why are you running? I’m running because my experience, skills, and passion can contribute to a healthy, resilient, and vibrant Port Orchard. I’m doing it for our community, and for our future — especially for our littles.
Serving my community is my passion. Currently, I serve on the Board of Directors for the Port Orchard Farmers Market to expand food access and grow local businesses. I also serve as the South Kitsap representative for Bremerton Kitsap Access Television, which promotes locally-produced programming and government transparency.
Your vote for me is a vote for leadership representing families and businesses; someone who is invested in the present and future for everyone who lives in Port Orchard.
Sincerely,
Shirah
